Launched in SA: new Suzuki Boleno

Cape Town - After making its world debut at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show, the new Suzuki Baleno will go on sale in South Africa in November 2016.

The Baleno will be offered in two specification grades, says Suzuki. The more affordable GL spec level is offered in conjunction with the manual gearbox only, while the GLX versions can be ordered with either five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmissions.

The new Baleno is covered by a standard three-year or 100 000km warranty, as well as a four-year or 60 000km service plan. Services are at 15 000km or 12-month intervals.

Engine and transmission

The Suzuki Baleno is powered by a 1.4-litre engine that produces 68kW/130Nm.

Both manual gearbox derivatives accelerate from 0-100km/h in 10.9 seconds and onto a top speed of 180km/h, while the single automatic model boasts figures of 11.6sec and a top speed of 170 km/h.

The driver’s seat is height-adjustable, while the rear bench seat is split 60:40 and can be folded flat individually or completely.

Electric windows front and rear are standard, as is manual air-conditioning with a pollen filter, remote central locking, and electrically adjustable exterior mirrors, says Suzuki.

The audio system comprises an MP3-compatible CD player, Bluetooth, USB compatibility, a 3.5mm auxiliary input, and a 12V power socket.

Specifications: Baleno GLX

The GLX specification grade offers everything on the GL list, but with some notable additions and upgrades, says the automaker.

The headlights feature HID projector elements and LED daytime running lights. Additional exterior features include chrome-finished door handles and chrome tailgate garnish, while the tailgate features a roof-end spoiler.

GLX models are fitted with 16” alloys.

Inside, a 6.2” TFT colour screen sits in the centre of the dashboard and a 4.2” colour screen relays info to the driver. The steering wheel features a leather-trimmed rim, and is adjustable for both reach and rake.

Also available is fully automatic air-conditioning and rear park distance control.

The luggage compartment is 355 litres for both models with the rear bench seat raised, and can be extended to 756 litres with the rear seated folded flat.
