Volkswagen South Africa's commercial vehicles announced its T-Series range has been refreshed with a facelift that will now be called the T6.1.
The facelifted T-Series range due to go on sale from January 2021 includes the Panel Van, Pick Up (in both single and double cab), Crew Bus, Kombi, Caravelle and California.
Local sales of the T6 range are 10 097 units since its launch in 2015.
The new model can be told apart from a new larger grille and is a 'single stylistic unit' with the new bumper. VW says everything below the bonnet, like the headlights, are new.
There are optional LED headlights available with six newly designed wheels, six new exterior colours and seven newly combined two-tone paintwork finishes mark the exterior changes.

Inside the T6.1 benefits from a new instrument panel. For practical reasons the panel has been equipped with an additional shelf in front of the driver, there's also a new larger tray for a smartphone with, an inductive interface for charging which is an optional feature.
The steering wheel is new multifunction item a d a 'view' button allows the driver to switch between the digital cockpit's different display configurations with just one click.
Only available as standard on the Caravelle Highline and California models is the 26cm digital cockpit interface. It's the same system available on other VW models and allows the driver to choose between different screen configurations which is done via the 'view' button on the multifunction steering wheel.

The new model now features electro-mechanical power steering, Volkswagen says open up access to numerous new driver assistance systems. Iit also reduces fuel consumption and makes the T6.1 more agile and precise to steer.
Engines
The engine on display is the two-litre TDI in different power outputs. The four-cylinder engines deliver between 81kW and 250Nm and is fitted with a 5-speed manual gearbox.
The unit with 110kW and 340Nm is available with a 7-speed gearbox and reaches a top speed of 172 km/h. The most powerful engine is twin-turbo unit that produces 146kW and 450Nm and comes as standard in combination with 7-speed DSG.
