Audi South Africa is factoring in a 40% decline in the premium car market in 2020. The German carmaker says the government-imposed lockdown severely affected the overall market, and expects the 'buy down' trend to gain traction.

The four-ringed badge automaker therefore will focus on its new A1, as well as the A3 hatch and sedan models. The compact Q3 SUV has been a star-performer in the car sales data prior to lockdown.

Audi registered 259 vehicle sales in May 2020.

The brand launched the A6 into the market in February, and will introduce seven new, or facelifted, models in the final quarter of 2020. It's a clear, aggressive strategy as it aims to compete with fellow German brands BMW and Mercedes.

What can we expect from the brand in the final quarter of 2020?
