Germany - BMW is set to welcome a third member to its 'i-car' family. The automaker has teased images and video of its new model.
The automaker says: "A new era of hybrid power. The first ever BMW i8 Roadster is getting ready to spread its wings undercover.
"In 2018 the BMW i8 Roadster will unlock the door to a whole new dimension in pioneering open-top driving pleasure – virtually silent and with zero local emissions."
The i8 super hybrid as well as the smaller i3 city car was launched in South Africa in 2015.
BMW teases the design of its i8 Roadster, without revealing too much.
The automaker says all figures are preliminary but the i8 Roadster plug-in hybrid BMW eDrive will deliver 15.4kWh/100km. Fuel consumption (combined) will be rated at 2.0-litres/100km, CO2 emissions (combined) is rated only at 45g/km.
