Drag strip destroyer! This one-off Ford Mustang Cobra Jet is a 1490Nm all-electric beast

accreditation

Ford Performance got special permission to take the Mustang under the proverbial knife. The team of engineers and designers gave the Mustang a drag makeover and kitted it out with full electric power.

Called the Mustang Cobra Jet 1400, this one-off car is said to run the quarter-mile in the low eight seconds at more than 275km/h! That's extremely quick, mainly because all the torque in electric vehicles are available from 0rpm.

Power output: 1045Kw and 1490Nm!

Dave Pericak, the global director for Ford Icons, said: "Ford has always used motorsport to demonstrate innovation. Electric powertrains give us a completely new kind of performance, and the all-electric Cobra Jet 1400 is one example of pushing new technology to the absolute limit. We're excited to showcase what's possible in an exciting year when we also have the all-electric Mustang Mach-E joining the Mustang family."

A challenging project

Ford says that the Cobra Jet is another step at expanding the Mustang range in the future. This follows hot on the heels of Ford's reveal of the Mustang Mach-E SUV - the first-ever, all-electric Mustang.

Mark Rushbrook, global director, Ford Performance Motorsports, adds: "This project was a challenge for all of us at Ford Performance, but a challenge we loved jumping into. We saw the Cobra Jet 1400 project as an opportunity to start developing electric powertrains in a race car package that we already had a lot of experience with, so we had performance benchmarks we wanted to match and beat right now. This has been a fantastic project to work on, and we hope the first of many coming from our team at Ford Performance Motorsports."

Ford Performance will continue to test the Mustang Cobra Jet 1400 ahead of its world debut later this year.
