BMW unleashes SA-bound M2 CS 331kW special edition

BMW's new M2 CS is the latest special edition to be added to the performance fray, set to make its way locally next year.

Power comes from a beefy 3.0-litre, six-cylinder in-line petrol engine equipped with M TwinPower Turbo technology with 331kW and 550Nm, 29kW more than in the M2 Competition. A dual exhaust system featuring two electrically controlled flaps lets you control the amount of growl emanating from the rear.

Raw power

BMW South Africa says it will be available locally from the second quarter of 2020.

It sheds weight courtesy of carbon fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP) construction for the bonnet that cuts weight by 50% with the front splitter, Gurney spoiler lip on the boot lid and rear diffuser left unpainted.

The lightweight theme is carried through to the interior with the presence of bucket seats borrowed from the M4 CS. Everything from the the seat backrest to the steering wheel is covered in Merino leather or Alcantara.

It does the 0 – 100km/h sprint in 4.0 seconds with an electronically governed top speed of 280km/h.

The M2 CS sits pretty on a set of lightweight 19-inch Y-spoke forged wheels in a high-gloss black or optionally a matt gold colour shade.

Jumping straight into the specifications, the CS comes standard with Adaptive M suspension with Comfort, Sport and Sport+ modes, M Sport brakes with red-painted callipers while carbon ceramic brakes is an optional extra.

It comes standard with a 6-speed manual gearbox while there is a 7-speed M double-clutch transmission offered as an option.
