What a stunner! Astra booted

Opel hopes to tug fans' heartstrings with four new models added its SA line-up. The most stunning is the new Opel Astra sedan! We have prices and images.

Meriva turbo, Opel Corsa facelift and Nurburgring edition, Astra sedan... Opel is making a comeback in South Africa with the launch of four models locally in September 2013. To aid its resurgence, the automaker has launched to most stunning derivative of its flagship yet - the Astra sedan.

The new Astra sedan range comes in two specifications (Essentia and Cosmo) and two engines (1.4 and 1.6 petrol).

The entry-level 1.6 Essentia has a 1.6 petrol engine producing 85kW/155Nm and a five-speed manual gearbox and Opel quotes 6.6 litres/100km with 154g/km of carbon emissions.

Next up there’s the new 1.4 Turbo Essentia, six-speed auto or manual, pushing out 103kW/200Nm. Consumption is listed as 5.9/100 and 139g/km CO2 emissions (6.6/100 and 154g/km for the auto).

RANGE-TOPPING COSMO

The range-topping 1.6 Turbo Cosmo has 132kW/230Nm and rockets to  100km/h in 8.7sec and on to 223km/h. Fuel consumption is 6.8/100 with emissions at 159g/km.

The sedan has a five-star Euro NCAP safety rating: it has electronic stability control, anti-lock brakes with electronic pressure distribution and emergency pressure assistance as well as cornering brake and torque control. Other safety kit includes trailer sway control, hydraulic brake fade assist and brake disc cleaning.

The Astra sedan is equipped with six airbags, IsoFix child-seat anchors, a pedal release system, side impact bars and front-seat belt tensioners.

LOADS OF KIT

The Essentia and Turbo Essentia benifit from colour-coded trim, 17” alloy rims, power and heatable external mirrors, multi-function steering wheel, fog and daytime running lights, height adjustment for the driver’s seat, folding rear seats and cloth trim. The interior benifits from aircon, front power windows, cruise control, audio system with USB, auxiliary and Bluetooth, seven speakers, and central locking remote control with an alarm/immobiliser.

The Turbo Cosmo has 18” alloy rims, chromed door releases, auto headlights and wipers, leather seats (heatable at the front), auto dual-zone climate control, power windows, hill-start assist, rear parking sensors, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror and a smart electronic parking brake.
