Voyager update adds Italian flair

The Chrysler Grand Voyager has made its European and global debuts just days before it’s expected to arrive in South Africa.

In another concrete example of the Fiat and Chrysler alliance taking shape, the MPV is said to combine the best automotive attributes America and Italy can lend a vehicle. The design is American and the interiors Italian, power is provided by lusty American powerplants although ride and handling are adapted to meet European tastes, the automaker said.

Marking the next step in a model first introduced in 1984 (and during which time 13 million units have been sold in 120 countries), the latest version of Chrysler’s flagship MPV is considered by the company to be the “best Voyager ever”.

SEVEN UP: Chrysler's Stow 'n Go modular seating arrangement is a standard feature in the updated Grand Voyager.

GENEROUS PROPORTIONS - AND COMFORT

Its generous dimensions – the MPV rides on a wheelbase that is 3.1 metres long and has an overall length of 5.21 metres – ensure a passenger compartment that is able to seat up to seven with the clever Stow ‘n Go system not requiring any seats be removed.

A high level of equipment has made available for the MPV with leather upholstery and a sophisticated infotainment system, including entertainment for the rear passengers, on the list of options.

Powerplants on offer at the global launch include a 2.8-litre turbodiesel and a 3.6-litre petrol unit.

Chrysler SA told Wheels24: “The Chrysler Grand Voyager goes through a facelift for 2011/2012 (and) we have released the first units to our dealers for preparation ahead of the official press release.”

More information will be released next week, the company added.
