Volvo V60 Polestar headed for SA

GOTHENBURG, Sweden – Production has begun at the Volvo Torslanda factory plant in Sweden of the V60 Polestar. Some are already on their way around the world.

S/V60 Polestar technical manager Henrik Fries said: “We are very happy to see the first complete production cars from Polestar be built in the Volvo factory. It is a satisfying result after many hours of work by the people behind this.”

NEW PARTNER

The automaker says the plant celebrated 50 years recently. It has produced more than 6.8-million cars starting with the Amazon model in 1964 and all the way to the new V60 Polestar in 2014.

The all-wheel drive Polestar is the first independent partner introduced to the production process and features a thoroughly developed chassis with high-performance shock-absorbers and brakes.

It makes 261kW from a turbocharged six-cylinder engine and, according to Volvo, reaches 100km/h in 4.9 seconds and an electronically limited top speed of 250km/h.

Volvo will build 750 S60 and V60 Polestar units for 2014. They will head to customers in Canada, the Netherlands, Japan, Sweden, Switzerland, UK and the US.

The UK market will receive the most - 125 units, fully specified with every option possible with the only choice left for the customer is to decide the car’s colour - blue, black, silver or white.

It will sell for the equivalent of R895 950. We were initially told the car was expected in South Africa at some time but this has now been refuted - mainly because of the currency exchange rate. – Newspress
