The new Maxi adds to the manufacturer's commercial vehicle range and, based on the Caddy Life, is said to combine spaciousness with utility and passenger car-like comfort levels.
The Maxi has a 3 002 cm extended wheelbase and a 150 mm extended rear overhang.
Bumpers, exterior mirror housings, side door handles are colour-coded.
Fog lamps are integrated into the bumper and visibility is aided by a large glasshouse and large side mirrors.
The airy interior can be accessed via two sets of sliding rear doors and offers space for seven people and their luggage.
When they are not needed, the rear seat benches can be folded into the floor for a totally flat load area.
As with the rest of the Caddy range, Maxi Life is powered by Volkswagen's familiar 77-kW 1.9 TDI engine.
The new Caddy Maxi Life will sell for R218 000 when it is launched in South Africa in June.
Its price includes a three-year/120 000 km warranty and an anti-corrosion warranty.
