Turbodiesel grunt for Audi A7

Hot on the heels of its sizzling RS7 launch in Germany (July 2013), Audi has boosted its local A7 line-up with additional diesel grunt.

Audi’s A7 Sportback
was launched in South Africa in March 2011 as the automaker targeted a niche market for those seeking a model between its C-segment A6 and D-segment A8.

By August 2013, 335 A7 Sportbacks had found homes in South Africa. It was launched with a choice of two six-cylinder engines (petrol or diesel) with an entry-level engine added to the line-up in January 2013.

DIESEL POWER

Now (Aug 2013) Audi SA has brought in an A7 Sportback, adding a three-litre TDI BiTurbo. The A7 Sportback is the first Audi to receive this diesel engine capable of 230kW/650Nm.

Mated to an eight-speed auto, fuel consumption is rated at 6.3 litres/100km with emissions of 166 g/km.

The engine produces a sporty sound courtesy of a sound actuator (loudspeaker) integrated into the exhaust. According to Audi: “It uses a modulation process to superimpose a defined oscillating pattern over the typical exhaust sound, underscoring the awesome power delivery of the TDI BiTurbo with a rich and sonorous tapestry of sound.”

The model will be delivered with Audi’s five-year or 100 000km Freeway Plan.
