Toyota's six decades of Cruising

In an effort to celebrate six decades of Land Rover rivalry, Toyota South Africa’s released a range of 60th anniversary Land Cruisers.

Most of the Land Cruiser range (200VX, Prado TX and the hardcore 76 and 79-series, although not the recently launched FJ) gain slight cosmetic upgrades to celebrate six decades of off-roading excellence.

Model for model the 60th Edition upgrades are slight.

The range-topping 200-series Land Cruiser receives chrome garnish around the rear number plate as well as moulded side steps (and scuff plates), whilst its cabin is embellished with 60th Edition insignia.

Available only in pearl white metallic, Land Cruiser 200 60th Edition will be limited to only 60 units - all of which are to be powered by the 4.5-litre V8 turbodiesel.

MANUAL SHIFT PRADO - AT LAST

If you are a Prado enthusiast keen on getting in on the 60th Edition celebrations, 120 TX (lower-grade) Prado models will be embellished with a similar level of specification to 200 series as a precursor to a new five-speed manual TX-grade Prado 3-litre D4-D due to be released by December 2011.

For those who think the only real Land Cruiser is one with solid-axle front suspension, Toyota’s marketing department’s already dispatched 200 76- and 79-series Land Cruiser bakkie and wagon derivatives to dealers, with another 240 60th Edition 70—series vehicles being kept in reserve for October.

Beyond the eye-popping 60th Edition red colour option, these solid front-axle ‘Cruisers feature leather seats with 60th Edition logos (although we suspect most owners will fit seat cover anyhow), SatNav, aluminium side steps and bumper accents as well as iPod connectivity.
