LONDON, England - SsangYong will unveil its Turismo seven-seater at the Johannesburg International Motor Show in October – and it will be ready for sale soon afterwards.
SsangYong SA couldn't yet confirm dates or prices - and check your garage dimensions before signing up for the SsangYong. It's big...
BIG, VERY BIG
The automaker says its new offering is a big car but has "a small price". The MPV has space for seven adults and all their luggage – we’ll have to wait and see.
By the sound of things, you’re going to need a large garage for this car. It’s more tha five metres long and has a three-metre wheelbase, making it bigger than a Renault Grand Scenic and about the same size as a Mercedes Viano or VW Caravelle.
With all three rows of seats occupied there'll still be 875 litres of luggage space. Drop the seats and load volume grows to 3146 litres.
SsangYong Motor UK CEO Paul Williams says: “With prices starting from the equivalent of R277 800 there really is nothing like it on the market. With key features being its innovative and flexible design layout, luxurious interior and highly competitive pricing, the new Turismo is a compelling proposition.
“Not only do you get a lot of car for the money, you also have the reassurance of an industry-leading five-year or limitless mileage warranty for complete peace of mind.”
The Turismo is already available to order in the UK.
PACKED WITH NICETIES
Designers styled the front of the car to have a robust stance thanks to its hexagonal shaped radiator grille and trapezoidal bumper, which tones down the car’s size. Under the bonnet is a two-litre turbo diesel engine capable of 115kW/360Nm.
There’s a choice between a six-speed manual transmission and a five-speed Mercedes-Benz T-Tronic auto gearbox.
SsangYong says the MPV has rear-wheel drive across the range, the top model has selectable all-while drive with low ratio as standard.
Safety goodies include electronic stability program, active rollover protection and emergency braking assistance. Standard niceties include aircon, powered and heatable door mirrors, leather-covered steering wheel and gearshifter, MP3/CD radio with USB and auxiliary ports and Bluetooth.
The higher spec ES model will have leather upholstery, power driver’s seat, heatable front seats, and rear parking sensors. The EX gets a heatable lower windscreen, solar controlled glass and rain-sensitive auto wipers and eco cruise control.
Turismo is available in five exterior colours varying between white, black and silver.
Turismo prices range in the UK from the equivalent of R277 800 to R360 000. SA prices will be available after the 2013 JIMS.
