Now a special edition Golf GTI Edition 35 pays homage to the success of this icon and its legendary status built over three decades. The new model has a two-litre turbocharged petrol engine, the same as that found in the Golf R and capable of 173kW and 300Nm, 18kW more than the standard GTI at 155kW.
Like the current Golf GTI, it has front-wheel drive with an electronic differential lock.
The engine is mated to either a six-speed manual or DSG auto and is capable of sprinting to 100km/h in 6.6sec with a top speed of 247km/h. The manual has a claimed fuel consuption of 8.1 litres/100km, the auto 8/100.
Exterior
The GTI Edition 35 has a style upgrade in the form of exterior changes including a new front bumper design, cornering lights and LED daytime running lights.

Interior
The cabin of the special edition has been updated with a classic golf ball look to the gear shift, decorative strips and the 35 logo and seat belts etched in red stripes.
The '35' logo appears on each seat's backrest and all decorative seams of the new model's seat design are red.
