This was confirmed by Ben Pillay, general manager communications and government affairs at Ford Motor Company of South Africa, who said he expected Focus production would ramp up from a current output of around 1 000 cars a month to 2 000 from next year.
He said initial targets from Ford Australia had indicated sales of around 1 200 a month.
However, Ford Australia president Tom Gorman has been quoted as saying the company "under-called" the rapid growth of the small-car segment in Australia.
Part of the reason for the growth in small cars in Aus. has been high fuel prices and more competitive pricing.
Ford Australia has sold 1 900 Focuses since the car went on sale in June, with a YTD total of more than 5 600.
However, Pillay assured Wheels24 that increased supply to Australia would not affect the supply of vehicles to South African dealers.
