Renault has again decided to mark its Formula 1 partnership with Red Bull Racing by releasing limited-edition Megane RS and Clio RS models.
The Megane Renault Sport 265 Red Bull Racing RB7 and the Clio Renault Sport Red Bull Racing RB7 are now available in South Africa, showcasing Renault’s Formula 1 cachet and transferring that technology straight to some of its favourite road cars.
SPORTIER THAN EVER
Unbelievably, these RB7s look even sportier than their predecessors. Bodies are finished in black metallic with signature, contrasting yellow finishes for the external mirror housings and rear diffuser. The roof of each model has a black chequered pattern while RB7 badges are attached to the doors.
More than just about looking good, the Megane is fitted with a list of features ranging from its Cup chassis to a limited-slip differential and red brake calipers. An RS monitor was inspired by the telemetry systems used in pukka race cars and allows purists to adjust the parameters of the driving aids available by displaying real-time performance data. Select “Normal” mode and 187kW/340Nm is available, while electronic brake assist and stability control functions are also available.
Go “Sport” and output is boosted to 197kW/360Nm and the brake assist function is deactivated.
The Clio version also uses a Cup Chassis and RS monitor while the two-litre petrol engine produces 151kW. The cars' flashy exterior finishes are complemented by equally flashy interiors: Recaro bucket seats, automatic aircon, auto headlight activation, a personalised plaque and a key card.
Renault South Africa says only 20 of each edition will be sold here. They’ll come standard with Renault’s five-year or 150 000km warranty, a five-year or 100 000km service plan on the Megane and a four-year or 60 000km plan for the Clio. Service intervals are 10 000 and 15 000km, respectively.
