After making its debut at the 2014 Paris Motor Show, the 500X becomes the latest addition to Fiat's 500 family.
Fiat says: "A beauty with character, the new car explores a brand-new dimension of being 500, where a mature, elegant, all-Italian style "clothes" - like haute couture - the substance of a car that is comfortable, high-performance and always in touch with the world: this is the X side of beauty, and this is the soul of the Fiat 500X."
ICONIC 500 ROOTS
The new crossover extends the 500 family which includes the 500C, 500L, 500L Trekking and 500L Living model.
Fiat says the new 500X will be available in two variants - one "metropolitan", the other ideal for "leisure use". The new 500X is equipped with diesel and petrol units, three transmission choices (manual, nine-speed auto or twin-clutch six-speed auto) and will be offered in either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive versions.
There's also a front-wheel drive unit with "traction plus".
The city-orientated version will be available in Pop, Popstar and Lounge trim levels, featuring distinctive, styling tuned for comfort. The second version, available in Cross and Cross Plus trim, sports more rugged, off-road elements and technology.
The Fiat 500X crossover will be available in South Africa in 2015.
