Honda has revised its already good-looking CR-Z two-door hybrid sports coupe with updates inside and out.
Honda has updated its CR-Z hyrbid sports coupe. The two-door benefits from a series of improvements, aimed at creating driving pleasure while also adding visual appeal.
The revised car has updates to the exterior and interior. At the same time, the power of the hybrid drivetrain has been increased, while fuel efficiency and CO2 emissions remain the same.
A LITTLE FACELIFT
A new front bumper, revised grille and glass sunroof, are among the key contributors to the CR-Z’s new looks. A more aerodynamic diffuser has been introduced at the rear and it also has new 17-inch alloy rims.
Among the updates is a new colour scheme, and leather upholstery for the bucket seats and the door panel inserts. Standard with the car is Bluetooth, heatable seats, rain-sensing wipers and auto headlights.
According to Honda the cabin lighting now employs diodes, which are not only energy efficient, but also contribute to the latest CR-Z interior’s “mood”.
The most significant improvement is the 1.5-litre petrol engine which has a revised i-VTEC variable valve timing system, linked to an updated electronic control unit. As a result, maximum power output has increased from 84 to 89kW and the electric motor from 10 to 15kW, thanks to a lithium-ion battery.
THREE MODES
The petrol engine and electric motor working in tandem produce 101kW (10.5% more) with an accompanying torque peak of 190Nm (up 9.2%).
It goes from 0-100 km/h in nine seconds and top speed is 200km/h. Combined-cycle fuel consumption remains at 5.2 litres/100 km, CO2 emissions at 124g/km.
Drivers can choose from three driving modes - eco, normal and sport.
Graham Eagle, director of Honda South Africa, said: “The 2013 Honda CR-Z underscores Honda’s strength and innovation in the burgeoning hybrid-car market. The additional output places even greater emphasis on the sporty hybrid’s dynamic prowess."
The CR-Z is available at Honda dealers for R332 800, which includes a three-year or 100 000km warranty, a five-year or 90 000km service plan and a year’s AA roadside assistance. Services intervals 15 000km.
