Nissan says the car, revealed on May 20 2014 in Paris as "a spacious five-door hatchback", was designed to meet the demands of European car-buyers and will be assembled at Nissan's plant in Barcelona, Spain.
The Pulsar, the automaker says, will re-establish Nissan's link with the C-segment - the second largest sector in the European car market.
OLD FAITHFUL PULSAR LIVES ON
Nissan SA has yet to confirm if the Pulsar will reach our market "but it definitely won't be a Datsun". The new Pulsar will go on sale in Europe in late 2014 and some time after that Nissan South Africa's engineers will appraise the car for local introduction.
The Pulsar first appeared in 1978 and was widely sold in Asia and Australasia for almost four decades. The Pulsar badge also appeared in certain European markets in the early 1990's on the N14 model.
It was also popular in South Africa.
