Three-door body for new Micra diesel model
Three-door body for new Micra diesel model

This small hatch is powered by a 1.5 litre turbodiesel engine, sourced from sister company Renault, and is also the first three door Micra to go on sale here. And in three-door guise with macho alloy wheels the Micra seems like a real sportster.

Whereas the 5-door version lacks a bit of zest in its design the new 3-door model seems quite cheeky, featuring sporty touches such as a streamlined roof spoiler, side sills, stylish dark 16-inch alloy wheels, front foglights headlamp finishers in black and a sport shaped front bumper.

The car is also well equipped with a host of standard comfort features such as electric windows, automatic air-conditioning and central locking, to name just a few. There are also dual front and side airbags, as well as a cut-off switch for the passenger side airbag.

Buyers are offered the choice of a fresh Ice Blue and Chocolate interior trim combination or an alternative all-black option. In addition, silver trim has been used on the pedals and leather gear knob to complete the Micra's expressive interior style.

Diesel power

The Micra's 1.5-litre develops a power output of 60 kW at 4 000 r/min, but it's the low down torque that makes all the difference. With 185Nm available at just 2 000 r/min, the Micra offers flexible performance and smooth delivery.

It is a very easy car to drive, while its lively diesel engine is strong and smooth. In town the Micra is nippy and on the open road this little diesel is an eager cruiser.

Nissan claims that this diesel Micra sips an average of 5.4l/100km, and at a more constant cruising speed one can expect to achieve figures closer to 4l/100km.

Nissan is still to confirm the price of the Micra, but potential buyers can expect to pay about R140 000 for the newcomer.
