SA electric car at Paris show

A South African designed six-seater electric car is to be unveiled at the Paris Motor Show by Science and Technology Minister Mosibudi Mangena on Thursday.

Department spokesperson Nhlanhla Nyide said on Monday that the prototype vehicle would be unveiled in Paris before the show officially opens to the public on Saturday.

The car - named the Joule - is a six-seater multi-purpose vehicle designed by Optimal Energy in association with South African-born designer, Keith Helfet.

Nyide said that further details about the car would be released once it had been unveiled. He said it was hoped that the car would in future become commercially produced.
