Mercedes-Benz has chosen China as the country where it will debut its next large four-door coupé concept, containing a number of technical highlights.

Aptly named Concept Style Coupe, the headline act at the 2012 Auto China sets a new tone for Mercedes-Benz design with its provocative and overtly masculine features.

Dieter Zetsche, head of Mercedes-Benz Cars, said: "The Concept Style Coupé is expressive and powerful in its design. We are staking our claim very clearly here. This is the model against which sporty vehicles in the executive segment will have to measure themselves in future."

'ALMOST PRODUCTION-STANDARD'

Bold words about the concept that is said to be “almost production-standard”… Technical highlights include a new headlamp design and powertrain arrangement.

Among the concept’s most striking features, though, are the bonnet powerdomes that are set right to the front end assembly and the diamond-look grille seen most recently on the Concept A-Class.

This diamond-theme is continued to the 20” wheels with their turbine design.

The airy feeling within the cabin is enhanced by the coupe’s frameless windows, its absence of a B-pillar and large glass roof.

The interior is awash in carbon-fibre trim and leather finishes in a mix of light grey and anthracite, offset by a white nubuck leather instrument panel and contrasting neon green accents for the upholstery, instrument panel cowl and door panels, for example.

There’s seating for four occupants, who also have the run of Merc’s state-of-the-art Comand Online multimedia system.

Unusually, this large coupé is powered by Merc’s new 155kW turbo two-litre petrol engine (with direct injection) combined with 4Matic all-wheel drive and 7G-DCT dual clutch transmission.
