LONDON, England - MG has unveiled the new MG3 at the 2013 Shanghai auto show ahead of the European launches due later in the year.

Carrying designs cues from the MG Zero concept vehicle, the new MG3 highlights modern British style aimed at younger, style-conscious buyers. It will be the second model of new-generation MG vehicles rolling off the lines in England.

FUNKY LOOKS

MG’s UK-based design team, the automaker says, has given the MG3 a cheeky touch of flair from every angle. Customers will have free rein to customise the cabin and exterior of the cars when ordered.

Styling traits include LED daytime running lights on every trim level, black mesh grille, a black A pillar and a ‘visor’ wraparound  windscreen. The dual-colour side skirts echo the Zero design and lower the car's stance. The higher trim levels use diamond-cut, two-colour wheel rims.

The rear has a valance insert inspired by generations of MG racing cars, a unique chrmed tail pipe and a body-colour tail spoiler.

The "rolled and raised" dashboard creates an airy cabin space, Mg says, and more leg and headroom front and rear.

PIMP MY RIDE

There will be a wide range of paint finishes and personalising options such as roof, side and bonnet graphics. Interior trim, wheels, vents, surrounds and mats will also be available in a choice of designs, colours and finishes.

Under the bonnet will be a 77kW VTi-Tech petrol engine, joining the MG6 DTi-Tech and TCi-Tech engines in the European family. It’s mated to a five-speed manual transmission that, MG says, will make it a great little city-slicker.

MG Motor UK sales and marketing director Guy Jones said: “This new MG3 is a great package for the increasing number of European customers looking for a stylish small car that’s affordable and practical.”

Jones said the car had a distinctive and cheeky style and would be fun to buy, own and drive, yet still affordable for a wide range of people. "It’s the modern interpretation of a small fun MG and shows how the company will take the essence of this iconic brand into the future.

“This is a car for which MG enthusiasts and dealers across Europe have been waiting for; more significantly, it will bring a whole new group of customers to the MG brand."
