Audi will launch two long-wheelbase derivatives of its luxury A8 sedan at the 2011 Johannesburg International Motor Show in October.

The A8 L has an overall length of 5.267m (130mm longer than the standard version) and its wheelbase has been increased to 3.122m. The width remains 1.949m while the height has increased by 2mm to 1.462m.

The model will be offered with two engine options: 4.2-litre turbodiesel, twin-turbo V8 or 6.3-litre W12 FSI petrol engine.

The 4.2 TDI is capable of 258kW and a torque peak of 800Nm which translatges to 0-100km/h in just over six seconds. Top speed limited to 250km/h.  

0-100km IN 4.3

The 12-cylinder, 6.3-litre FSI has a power potential of 368kW and delivers maximum torque of 625Nm at 3250rpm. It's performance data is listed as 0-100km/h in 4.9sec but top speed is also limited to 250km/h.  

Each model has all-wheel drive and an eight-speed auto/manual sequential gearbox. Fully adjustable air-suspension is standard along with a sports differential for greater cornering stability.

Also common to each vehicle are two LCD screens for the rear seats, rear multimedia interface controller and Bluetooth headsets, power sunshades for the rear glass and 20" alloy rims. The W12 has diode headlights.
