STUCK IN THE ASHES?: The Phoenix concept shown at the 2011 Geneva auto show, which supposedly previewed elements of the next-generation Saab 9-3.

Embattled automaker Saab has withdrawn from September’s 2011 Frankfurt auto show, it is reported.

Automotive News reported that the Swedish brand would not be represented at the show because it was struggling to raise cash to pay suppliers.

In explaining its withdrawal, Saab said its presence at the show “was not considered an appropriate use of resources”.

A shortage of cash drove Saab to halt production in March, 2011 and no cars have been produced at Trollhatten since June, 2011. Several suppliers have reportedly started threatening debt-collection procedures if they are not promptly paid.
