Merc's R8.4m cabrio gets the nod

accreditation
Daimler has decided to round out its luxury limousine Maybach brand with the open-top Landaulet model based on the Maybach 62 S sedan, Mercedes-Benz Cars marketing head Klaus Maier told a newspaper.

Maybach displayed the car at the recent Detroit Motor Show this week and it is now set to go into serial production, Maier told the Stuttgarter Zeitung newspaper.

"The Landaulet will expand the Maybach product line and draw a lot of attention to the brand," he added.

He did not say how many units of the model - which he said costs around $1.19m (about R8.4m) and up - it planned to make.

Maybach sold around 400 units in 2007, while BMW's Rolls-Royce brand sold just over 1 000.
