Chrysler has managed to blend traditional American style and electric power in the guise of the new 200C EV concept.

Stylistically a scaled down 300C, the 200C EV rides on a 100mm shorter wheelbase, and is powered by a small internal combustion petrol engine augmenting an integrated electric generator and Lithium-ion battery set.

Running solely on electric power the 200C EV has a range of 65km, whilst working in unison with the petrol engine it should achieve a 650km range.

With 200kW peak power on tap from the drivetrain (of which 55kW is continuous electric) the rear-wheel drive 200C EV is hardly slow; 0-100km should be in the low seven-second bracket.

Innovative interior

Beyond the brazen exterior styling – including huge, chrome wheels hiding the regenerative braking system – the 200C EV houses a fascinating interior, completely devoid of traditional buttons and stalks. All functions are controlled via an interactive touch screen.

The touch screen also houses UConnect technology, which will enable smartphone equipped owners to set up buddy cars (using Facebook familiar technology) and see if their mates are in the area and what they're up to.

Beyond the social connectivity appeal, one can start up your 200C EV, check what’s going on inside the car from your phone’s video function and receive warnings if the car is driven outside of a set range or speed/acceleration parameters by your teenagers…

Featuring either 110/120- or 220/240-volt outlet charging options, the 200C EV is a stylish, real-world plug-in hybrid alternative to mainstream performance saloons – or so Chrysler hopes…
