Better Lexus GS heading for SA

accreditation
Lexus, the luxury brand division of Toyota, has announced significant revisions to the GS range of bespoke sedans.

With the GS 430 being replaced by a GS 460, a facelift of the GS 450h and GS 300, the Lexus GS range has been significantly bolstered.

The revised range should arrive locally in the first quarter of next year.

Featuring a 255kW, 4.6-litre direct injection petrol V8 engine mated to a unique 8-speed automatic transmission, the GS 460 now rockets from 0-100km/h in 5.8 seconds.

The performance hybrid of the range, GS 450h, retains the 3.5-litre V6 petrol engine combined with an electric motor driving through a continuously variable transmission.

With 253kW on tap it blitzes the 0-100km/h sprint in 5.3 seconds and trundles around at 8.4-litres per 100km economy.

Changes to the GS 450h have primarily been cosmetic as a host of 'hybrid' logo's now adorn the exterior of the vehicle which can ordered in a bespoke Black Opal finish, unique to the Lexus range.

Both the GS 460 and GS 450h now feature standard runflat tyre technology, as well as an active stabiliser system which utilize twist-torque anti-roll bars to enhance body control during dynamic driving.

The active stabiliser system, features an actuator centrally located on both front and rear anti-roll bars. The actuator comprises a DC brushless motor with attendant reduction gear, capable of applying torque to both left and right hand sections of the stabiliser bar.

The system ECU calculates the twist torque output required based on sensor fed steering angle and vehicle velocity information. The twist force, applied independently to both front and rear stabiliser bars, reduces body roll to promote improved vehicle stability, superior cornering performance and improved agility through enhanced steering response.

GS 300 retains the 3-litre 183kW V6, and is now available with new range of 17- and 18-inch wheel designs as well as active variable suspension which allows both sport and normal ride characteristics.

All models have seen discreet restyling of the grille and headlamps, with a lower front bumper to aid aerodynamic efficiency. Interior changes include an auxiliary audio socket, redesigned switchgear and instrumentation and the availability of semianiline upholstery.
