More efficient A4 models for SA

Audi has added more "green" credentials to its local A4 line-up by equipping the 2.0 TDI and 2.0 TSI models with a new Start/Stop system as a standard feature.

This system switches off the engine when the vehicle is stationery. For example the engine will cut out when you stop the car at a traffic light, and will start up automatically when you drive off.

The vehicle’s electrical system is supplied with electricity from rapid power storage devices called supercaps. As soon as the driver presses down the clutch, the engine is started. By the time the clutch pedal is released, the engine has reached idling speed.

An intelligent engine management system ensures short engine starting times and eliminates all negative effects of switching off and starting the engine with regards to exhaust emissions.

The Start/stop system is automatically activated each time the ignition is switched on. You can deactivate the system if required.

Other environmentally-friendly features on the A4 range include tweaked steering components where a servo pump only operates when needed and tyres with low rolling resistance.

Audi also says that A4's aluminium construction, the Audi Space Frame (ASF), reduces weight which of course means better fuel consumption too.
