Merc's baby AMG ready to order

AFFALTERBACH, Germany – The Mercedes-Benz A 45 AMG, launched just a month earlier at the Geneva auto show,  is ready to order in Germany ahead of its launch in June 2013.

Giving new meaning to the 'high-performance compact class', the A 45 AMG pushes out 265kW/450Nm but claims to use only 6.9 litres/100 km, making it compatible with EU6exhaust  emissions requirements.

The AMG 4matic all-wheel drive system is fitted as standard and that helps the car to a 4.6sec 0-100km/h sprint.

HEADING TO SA

The A-class as a brand will be launched in South Africa over April 10-12 2013; the A 45 AMG will join the line-up late October or early November 2013.

And of course, as if the A 45 won’t be pimped out enough, there are several option packages. Among them will be a 'night package' with privacy glass, black trim strips, black tailpipe trim, chromed radiator fins and black mirrors; an AMG exterior carbon-fibre pack and an AMG aerodynamics package. There’s also something called the exclusive package with heatable black front sports with red stitching, with the same treatment on the cabin facia and door centre panels.

For those who really want to stand out, there’s the exclusive "Edition 1" model which has a number of niceties both inside and out.

The body paint comes in white with AMG sports stripes in matt grey on the bonnet, roof and sides. The radiator grille, exterior mirrors and rear aerofoil each have red detailing to complement the red brake callipers and the matt black AMG multi-spoked alloy rims.

OPTIONS? STANDARD!

The AMG night and aerodynamics packages are included on the "Edition 1" to enhance the car’s motorsport-inspired personality. Other features include the E-Select lever with an embossed AMG badge and "Edition 1" logo on the engine.

The Mercedes A 45 AMG will sell from the equivalent of R583 000 in Germany, the "Edition 1" about R668 000. These prices are only a guide: SA prices with local taxes will be announced at launch.
