Manual box for SA's 206kW Golf R

Volkswagen SA has confirmed that its hottest Golf yet, the Golf R, is now available with a manual transmission.

VWSA said: “Since its local launch in February 2014, the Golf R has sold more than 740 units despite only being available with DSG transmission.”

The new Golf R is powered by a new two-litre 206kW/380Nm TSI turbo-petrol engine, its six-speed manual 'box coupled to an all-wheel drive system (4Motion). The manual version reaches 100km/h in  5.2sec (previous model 5.7) and top speed is electronically limited to 250km/h.

FRUGAL HOT HATCH

Fuel consumption is down from 8.5 to a claimed 6.9 litres/100km over the previous model. The new Golf R is equipped with BlueMotion Technology with Stop/Start.

VWSA said: “A newly configured sport suspension system (body height lowered by 20mm), coupled with the new progressive steering system and "ESC Sport" ensures that the dynamic driving experience is exceptional.”

Optional features include dynamic chassis control with the driving profile selector including race mode.

The Golf R is sold with a five-year or 90 000km service plan, three-year or 120 000km warranty and a 12-year anti-corrosion warranty. Service intervals 15 000km.
