Looking Smart - the new Fortwo

The Smart ForTwo will have a new look for 2012 featuring an updated exterior and a new leather and fabric mix in the interior.

The most notable change is at the front with its larger grille sporting an integrated logo and LED daytime driving lights, side skirts and modified rear aprons.

Smart's Annette Winkler says, "The way in which the ForTwo now displays the Smart logo more prominently stands for the brand's new self-confidence. The Smart ForTwo has long become an icon that is a defining feature of urban traffic throughout the world."

There is also a choice of three new alloy wheels.

OUT WITH THE OLD: As you can see the front is a lot bolder compared to the outgoing model with a larger griller and logo.

While the main focus of this facelift is on the exterior, there are changes inside the car, too. These include a new interior package in crystal grey, comprising a leather/fabric combination for the seats, an imitation leather/fabric mix for the door trims and black imitation leather for the instrument panel in combination with a grey knee pad.

The Fortwo will continue to be available as a coupé and cabrio version with six engine and motor variants. The full line-up ranges from an electric powertrain in the ForTwo electric drive, a micro hybrid petrol engine, a powerful turbo petrol unit and a turbodiesel powerplant.

More than 1.3 million ForTwos have been delivered to customers since the first model was launched in 1998, Daimler says, adding 101 996 of the city cars were handed over to customers worldwide in 2011 – 4.6 percent more than in the previous year.
