The car's sportier aesthetic is conveyed via imposing 10-spoke 17-inch wheels (available in either a high-sheen titanium or a dark chrome finish) and black surrounds for the headlamp clusters.
Two models are offered in South Africa; the SLK 200 K and SLK 350 derivitives.
The four-cylinder SLK 200 produces 135 kW at 5 500 r/min and 250 Nm of torque from 2 800 to 5 000 r/min. The SLK 350 is powered by a 3.5-litre V6 engine that develops 224 kW at 6 500 r/min and 360 Nm at 4 900 r/min.
The 200 K comes standard with a five-speed manual transmission, while the 350 has a five-speed touchshift speedtronic with cruise control. This automatic gearbox is available for the 200 K as a R13 700-option.
