Kia going RWD with big new sedan

LOS ANGELES, California - The highly anticipated Kia K900 rear-wheel drive sedan took centre-stage today as Kia Motors America (KMA) took the wraps off its new flagship in front of a packed house of media representatives from around the world at the 2013 Los Angeles auto show.

“The all-new 2015 K900,” Kia says, “is poised to challenge the full-size rear-drive luxury sedan segment with an extensive list of standard equipment, world-class accommodation and stunning design that will redefine consumer perception and expectations of the Kia brand.”

It's the biggest car in the Kia stable, bigger than the Optima available in South Africa and not sharing its platform.

'WILLING TO CHANGE'

Kia Motors will in 2013 celebrate its 20th anniversary in the US and the all-new K900 is seen by the automaker as a symbol of how far the brand has come “and the next bold example of the challenger spirit that has benefited Kia over nearly two decades of growth and maturation”.

Michael Sprague, executive vice-president for marketing and communications and KMA added: "Kia's rise over the last five years has been fuelled by a willingness to challenge the status quo with vehicles such as the Optima, Sorento and Cadenza.

“Those vehicles have brought new and more affluent customers to our showrooms and dramatically raised the profile of the brand while maintaining our value proposition.”

The K900, he said, was the next logical progression and a window into what Kia can achieve.

Pity it hasn’t been given a more exciting name... and that it is not coming to South Africa.
