Hyundai adds 1.2 Motion to i20 list

Hyundai SA has added an 'entry level' but 'well-equipped' i20 1.2 Motion to its range of small cars.

The car will join the larger-engined Hyundai i20 1.4 Fluid and the present range-topper, the i20 1.4 Glide.

Apart from its smaller four-cylinder 1.2 petrol engine and five-speed manual gearbox (the others have a six-speed manual or four-speed auto), there is not much that sets the i20 Motion apart from its 1.4 siblings. Hyundai says it is "exceptional value for money".

'LOGICAL STEP'

Hyundai’s i20 supermini – intended to appeal to younger buyers – was launched in August 2012 with a new appearance after it was revised and refreshed inside and out.

Marketing director Stanley Anderson explained: “After the launch of the refreshed i20 it was a logical step to see how we could expand the range to offer an entry-level derivative with a good specification level but at a price that would appeal to many people who have shown an interest in one of Hyundai’s best-sellers.

“The i20 is a solid, well-designed and spacious hatchback that offers good fuel economy, a class-leading warranty, roadside assistance and a service plan. If you throw in the many features of the i20 1.2 Motion, it is an option that cannot be ignored.”

EXTERIOR CHANGES

It's 1.2-litre quad-valve engine delivers 64kW (similar to some competitors’ 1.4-litre engines) at 6000rpm and peak torque of 120Nm at 4000rpm. The Fluid and Glide derivatives have a 73kW 1.4 petrol engine.

Exterior changes that distinguish the Motion from the Fluid and Glide include black door releases and exterior mirror housings, 14" steel wheel rims with silver covers and a turn indicators fitted to the front wings instead of being part of the mirror housings.

Price: R144 900.
