Honda’s new CR-V now in SA

The fourth-generation of Honda's CR-V soft-roader is now available in South Africa with a choice of six derivatives, including the brand's first front-wheel drive.

The all-new CR-V includes a number of technological advancements over its predecessor although the latest SUV retains a number of familiar traits, such as its black B-pillars.

One of the biggest new additions is the 2.0 Comfort as the entry-level model, available with front-wheel drive – a first for Honda’s CR-V range - but the CR-V overhaul has also affected the SUV’s dimensions. The new vehicle is 5mm slimmer and 30mm shorter than the one it replaces, yet the same amount of interior space is on offer.

Other additions include LED daytime running lights and LED tail lights.

The CR-V’s cabin is said to present a “quiet, refined and relaxed ambiance”, according to Honda. The automaker is said to have spent quite a bit of time working on the SUV’s noise, vibration and harshness characteristics and engine and road noise are apparently significantly reduced.

With the addition of the 2.0 Comfort model, the CR-V line-up now has six derivatives.

The two-wheel drive entry-level model is followed by the all-wheel-drive version of the same vehicle. The former is equipped with a six-speed manual transmission, the latter with a five-speed auto, but both have a 1997cc i-VTEC, quad-valve, four-cylinder petrol engine developing 114kW/192Nm, the latter at 4300rpm.

Moving up the range, the 2.4 Elegance and Executive models have a 140kW/220Nm 2.4-litre four-cylinder petrol engine with a five-speed auto transmission.

The flagship models in the CR-V range are powered by a four-cylinder, 2.2-litre i-DTEC turbodiesel engine available with either a six-speed manual or five-speed auto transmission. The turbodiesel delivers 110kW at 4000rpm and 350Nm from 2000-750rpm.

The range of standard equipment and safety features has also been expanded. The Comfort  offers black fabric seats as standard, while the Elegance, Executive and Exclusive have black leather. Features, depending on the specification grade, include a premium audio system, electrically adjustable seats with lumbar support and keyless entry.
