JOHANNESBURG, South Africa - Toyota's upgraded Yaris will embark on a new era when it is released in South Africa later in 2014.

New images of the Yaris have been released in May 2014 and it shows a car which will deliver “greater emotional appeal” by sporting the automaker’s signature front-end design.

The new Yaris embraces Toyota's contemporary design language, says the automaker, with a full-width upper grille that extends into new triangular headlights.

Toyota says its new front gives the car a more contemporary "family look" and more in-line with its Auris, Corolla and the new Aygo (not due in SA before 2015).

It also incorporates a deeper front bumper with a large trapezoidal lower intake, which are key elements of Toyota's design theme that are being introduced progressively across the range.

The upgrade also adds revised rear styling including new rear lights as well as a raft of under-the-skin and interior mods – details to be released closer to the launch.

The range of engines is unchanged, with a 1.0- and 1.33-litre petrol as well as Toyota’s flagship full hybrid system on offer.

According to Toyota, its new Yaris will arrive in South Africa during the last quarter of 2014. Details and pricing is yet to be confirmed for Europe and more information for the SA market will be available closer to its launch.

Looking at the Japanses Vehicle and motorbike producers, once they were the leaders in engine technology but the last few years, what have they done to WOW the world...yet they still demand such high prices for their cars, no wonder the Koreans are HAMMERING them and the worlds LARGEST market, China, they will NEVER penetrate as the Chinese cannot STAND the Japanese yet they LOVE the Germans. Toyota, get your ass into gear, bring us something new and that does not mean higher cars prices for the same plastic fantastic cars claiming "reliability" as your only catch phrase, the '80s are long gone.

Honestly, the new toyota styling is improving. But that yaris grill - dunno what happened there. Looks like a hula skirt !!! I'm not holding my breath with pricing either

Looks an awful lot like the new Renault Clio, especially the headlamps. Will most probably also be the most expensive in the class...

Yup, and the Clio spec & warranty is much better. Toyota has lost it

I have driven the 1.0 Yaris, just no. It's too heavy for the poor engine.

    Ugly and overpriced!

On the yaris, the new corolla is out for 280 000 bux! Had a look with the same cheap plastic finish and Toyota styling from way back when, for a few rands more I'm more keen on the new audi a3 for the same price.
