Geely South Africa has announced a number of commercial vehicles for the South African market ranging from bakkies to panel vans and minibuses. More importantly, perhaps, prices range from around R50 000 to R77 000.
Geely is expanding into the heavily contested commercial vehicle segment of the South African market. The local subsidiary has announced a partnership with another of its compatriots, Chongqing Sokon Motor Group, to sell a range of vehicles here under the DFSK brand.
The five-model range comprises single- and double-cab bakkies, a panel van and a minibus and all models are said to be offered with a wide range of standard and optional equipment.
All models are fitted with cloth seats, 13” steel wheels and FM/AM radios. The panel and minivans are fitted with front and rear fog lamps and high-mounted stop lights.
MINI TRUCK
There are three bakkie models to choose from, ranging from the 35kW/76Nm one-litre Single Cab to the 58kW/103Nm 1.3-litre motor used in both the single and double cabs.
The load capacity for both body styles is 500kg and both have drop-sides for the load area.
Protective bars across the rear window and three-point safety belts on all seats keep the four occupants safe.
PANEL VAN
The Panel van has seating for two with a loading space measuring 2000mm x 1320mm x 1320mm. A rear hatch and a single sliding door on the left-side of the vehicle allow for easy loading of a number of items.
MINIBUS
The people carrier has seating for up to six adults, each with a three-point seat belt.
Both the panel van and minibus are powered by the same 58kW 1.3-litre engine used in the bakkies.
In all models, including the one-litre bakkie, drive is channeled to the rear wheels via a five-speed manual transmission.
Suspension is via McPherson struts with coil springs at the front and independent plate springs at the rear axle. Stopping is the work of a combination of discs and drum brakes at the front and rear wheels, respectively.
For now, Geely SA says, only white vehicles will be available.
