Fresher Aygo hits SA

After Toyota’s Aygo had been denied to South Africa for so long, we’re now being bombarded with the ball of fun – the facelifted car is now available here with a fresh look and a new flagship model.

First seen at the Brussels auto show earlier in 2012, this Aygo shows off the new face of Toyota’s small cars (first seen in the all-new Yaris launched here in 2011), along with a new bonnet design and a new, aerodynamic, bumper.

The changes also see the Aygo’s overall length increased by 15mm, too.

Headlining the reintroduction is the five-door Inferno special edition with its exclusive burnt orange metallic paint finish, alcantara seats, front fog lamps and leather steering wheel and gearshift knob.

The remaining models are the three- or five-door Fresh and Wild models in the base and mid-spec grades. According to Toyota SA, all models now come with a radio/CD player as standard while the entry-level Fresh model continues without a tachometer.

Even the Fresh model, however, is equipped with power steering, air conditioning, dual front airbags, ABS, electronic brake distribution and brake assist, and an immobiliser.

Mid-range Wild models add 14” alloy wheels, colour-coded mirrors and door handles, front power windows, four speakers, side airbags and remote central locking.

Furthermore, the revised Aygo range is fitted with a new Toyota Optimal Drive three-cylinder petrol engine. The one-litre VVT-i engine, Toyota says, produces 102g/km of CO2 emissions, while consuming an average of 4.6 litres/100km of fuel.

All models are fitted with Toyota’s microdot system.

A four-year or 60 000km service plan is standard, along with a three-year or 100 000km warranty and 24-hour roadside assistance.
