Ford’s Ranger. Always looked like a proper bakkie, right? Now they’ve facelifted it. Oh dear.
The Ranger’s chunky, Americanised, styling has been replaced with a more contemporary look, courtesy of a new three-bar grille (embellished with contrasting black mesh vertical insets) and more angular headlights.
A new front bumper, which features a large bottom section cut-out backed with black mesh, replaces the previous generation item.
Other styling changes include revised taillights, stylised rear step bumper.
Redesigned 16-inch alloy wheels roll in the Ranger’s wheelarches, whilst black and stainless steel side and sports bars are featured on all XLT and XLE level vehicles.
Local specification differs from the international Ranger facelift, with South African Rangers doing without the integrated sidemirror LED turn indicators or rear park distance control.
Interior features dual front and side airbags.
Changes to the Ranger’s cabin are negligible.
The green instrumentation illumination has been replaced with a red hue and infotainment convergence has been improved with auxiliary jack capability added to both XLT and XLE models.
Mechanically the facelift has left Ranger unchanged.
Ford fans still have option on the outstanding 3.0 TDCi compression ignition engine, worth 115kW and 380Nm of peak rotational force at only 1 800r/min. What those output figures don’t indicate is the uncanny smoothness of this engine, which is class leading.
The Ford Ranger comes with a 5 year / 90 000km Service Plan and a comprehensive 4 year/120 000km warranty with service intervals of 10000kms.
Customers will also benefit 3 years of Roadside Assistance and a 5 year corrosion warranty as part of the Ford Ranger package.
