Drop-top Rangey Evoque cabrio spotted

Land Rover will make surprising addition to its Range Rover Evoque line-up – a convertible 4x4. It seems the cabriolet concept shown at the 2012 Geneva auto show will become a reality later in 2015.

Our spyguys captured the new Range Rover Evoque convertible being tested and their images reveal that the car will use a powered fabric roof and retain styling from the concept.

HEADED FOR GOODWOOD

There’s a nod towards the full-size Range Rover Sport in its drop-down tailgate and its top folds away beneath a flush-fitting cover. The production version could debut at the 2015 Goodwood Festival of Speed in southern England in June, reports Automedia.

Despite its foldable top, Land Rover maintains its convertible Evoque's body is rigid enough for serious off-roading.

Land Rover has developed its own rollover protection system that, the automaker says, won’t pop up in error in extreme off-roading - we presume they mean when one more wheels leave the ground.

With the Evoque approaching its fourth birthday in 2015 it’s likely a minor refresh of the range could coincide with the launch of the convertible. Expect the current 2.2-litre diesel to be replaced by the new two-litre Ingenium diesel as it will be in the Evoque’s sister car, the new SA-bound Land Rover Discovery Sport which comes off the same production line.
