The engine, with dual variable valve timing, has outputs of 125 kW and 220 Nm and will be mated with a five-speed manual gearbox.
This model brings the number of Caliber models sold in South Africa to four, including the petrol 1.8 and 2.0-litre World engines, and a 2.0 litre turbodiesel.
As with the rest of the range, the level of standard equipment offered is extensive and includes side curtain airbags, the nine-speaker Boston Acoustics sound system, a beverage cooler, sliding armrest and illuminated cup holders.
In addition to this, the 2.4 adds a leather-covered steering wheel, sports suspension, leather seats, chrome interior and exterior trim features, fog lamps and 18-inch aluminium wheels.
The Caliber 2.4 R/T costs R209 900 and will be available from mid-April. It is covered by a three-year/100 000 km warranty and maintenance plan.
