JOHANNESBURG, South Africa - Renault South Africa has just unveiled the Duster Detour – the alter ego of the recently launched Duster SUV.

According to the automaker, the Detour is a little “Mad Max with a touch of the Terminator, with some Dakar dust ‘n dirt”.

DIRTY LOVECHILD

The Detour is the lovechild of the Renault Design Central Europe and a specialised South African design studio based in Johannesburg.

It has a two-tone combo paint job of Pearl Yellow/Matt Grey and it’s ready to take on SA’s ‘veld en vlakte’ (rugged terrain) SUV brigade. According to the company, the car boasts with rugged good looks, loads of space such as 475 litres in the boot and off-road capabilities.

Renault Design Central Europe director Geoffrey Gardiner said: “We’ve had an enormous amount of fun in integrating the key design equipment and eye-catching elements that have gone in to making up the Duster Détour.

Renault SA’s product manager Floyd Ramabulana said: “This fun and futuristic show-car couldn’t have come at a better time, following the introduction of the Duster range in mid-September. We’ve received an amazing response from potential buyers who have flooded our website and social network platforms to discover the Duster line-up. Our dealers are extremely busy organising hundreds of test drives.”

The Duster SUV and its evil twin, the Duster Detour will both be at the Renault stand at the 2013 Johannesburg International Motor Show from October 18-26.
