Concept rides for Jeep Safari

MICHIGAN, USA - Mopar and Jeep have teamed up to present six new concept vehicles at the 46th Annual Moab Easter Jeep Safari in Utah, USA. Since 2002, Jeep and Mopar have teamed to create more than 30 unique concept vehicles for enthusiasts who attend the popular Easter Jeep Safari.

Mopar also announced the creation of an off-road division that will create Jeep parts and accessories.

Mike Manley, CEO of Jeep, said: “We’re delighted to showcase six new vehicles to our loyal Jeep fans at this year’s Moab Easter Jeep Safari"

“The Jeep Safari has long been a great way for Jeep to connect with its core audience. We look forward to spending the week demonstrating our latest potential production and customisation ideas and gathering instant feedback from the most knowledgeable 4x4 enthusiasts in the world,” said Manley.

GRAND CHEROKEE TRAILHAWK CONCEPT

The new Trailhawk concept sees many design changes compared to the current Cherokee range. The model is finished in a white, grey and red colour scheme. The grille, mirror caps and rear lights are grey, which contrast with the red grille mesh, front and rear tow hooks, Jeep logos and wheel caps on the wheels.

Other unique touches include black headlamp surrounds, exterior front and rear badging, red badges on the front fenders and a unique badges at the rear.

The Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawx will sport 18" off-road tyres wrapped around new five-spoke alloy wheels. The Trailhawk’s SilentArmor tyres include additional side-wall protection that enhances durability and reduces road noise. Modified Mopar rock rails are included.

WRANGLER APACHE

Jeep enthusiasts have been clamouring for a V8-powered Wrangler and in 2012 Mopar has come through with a 6.4 HEMI V8 engine conversion kit. The engine is capable of 350kW horsepower and 637Nm and will be mated to five-speed automatics and eventually to the six-speed manual featured in the 2012 Wrangler.

The Apache has Mopar Pro 60 5.13 front and rear axles, a 4.5-inch stage 3 long arm lift kit and off-road wheels. Other modifications include flat fenders, rock rails, front and rear half-door kits, a winch and leather seats.

JEEP MIGHTY FC CONCEPT

The Jeep Forward Control was built from 1956 to 1965 and offered a clever packaging solution for off-road enthusiasts. Jeep has created a modern version of this classic in the form of the Mighty FC concept.

Jeep's designers started with a new Wrangler Rubicon and repositioned the cabin over and ahead of the front axle, lengthened the wheelbase, and added a custom-built cargo box. The cab uses a roof from the Mopar JK-8 conversion kit, as well as a custom-designed front clip. The Wrangler-based interior has been enhanced with heavy-duty leather and a unique colour scheme. The cargo area is handled by a tray-style load bed that measures more than 2.4m.

Off-road functionality is dramatically improved with the addition of Mopar’s new Portal Axle set.

The axles are controlled with King coil-over assemblies along with Teraflex control arms and track bars. Traction is handled by massive 40-inch tyres mounted on custom 17" wheels.

J-12 CONCEPT

The Jeep J-12 concept is essentially an extended version of Mopar’s recently introduced JK-8 pickup conversion kit for the Jeep Wrangler. The rear of the vehicle’s frame is extended 18 inches which results in a cargo box which is 1.8m long. A custom hood and front fender set was created as a nod to aficionados of the Jeep Gladiator.

The cabin of the J-12 concept has a “dressed down” a basic truck theme and the carpet is replaced with a rugged truck bed liner, while bucket seats are recrafted into a modern version of a bench seat.

WRANGLER TRAILDOZER CONCEPT

Jeep's Wrangler Traildozer receives a 350kW 6.4 V8 mated to a six-speed manual transmission. The Traildozer sports front and rear bumpers boosted by corner guards as well as a host of Mopar performance extra including heat reduction hood, door kit and winch.

Inside, the Traildozer has leather seats and Mopar slush mats.

The Moab Easter Jeep Safari will take place from March 31 to April 8, 2012.
