Citroen’s new DS concept for Beijing

Citroen is continuing to keep its DS spirit in focus as the automaker will unveil another concept car at the 2014 Beijing auto show in April.

The French automaker says the DS 5LS R will make its debut at the show (April 4-20) and is a “unique version of the DS 5LS that showcases all the attributes of the production model but focusing on performance and top-quality materials”.

The DS 5LS R follows on from the DS3 Cabrio Racing and DS4 Racingconcept cars

ONE MORE SIBLING

The car has an anodised carmine-red paint with a matte and metallic finish that compliments the sporty body styling. It has wide side strips in matte carbon grey on the front doors that underline the its heritage from the “R” range of sports cars.

The “R” signature features above the grille, at the rear and on the sides of the car.

Citroen said: “The DS 5LS R is fitted with real carbon components including the side signature that extends from the windows to the boot, cutting through the quarter panel with a subtly drawn shark fin.”

The DS Wings grille is also in carbon grey; there are 20" rims cut from a block and carbon-coloured to match the polished aluminium on the exterior and the touches of red paint.

Inside, design elements focus on luxury: the cabin is fully lined with leather, including bits on the facia and steering-wheel.

The DS identity is everywhere and the upholstery features three types of leather. The seats, facia , upper door panels and central armrest are finished with pearl top-stitching in carmine red.

Citroen says the idea of performance plays a central role in the DS 5LS R cabin, as seen in the chronometer on the central console. There are also more carbon touches on the steering wheel, door panels and door releases, and red inserts in the air vents.

More details and power figures will be released when the car makes its debut at the 2014 Beijing auto show.  We'll bring them to you then...
