All the Chevs, except for one model, are known to South Africans. The only thing that is different is the Chevrolet badging.
The range consists of four models of which three are based on Daewoo cars and one derived from Holden in Australia.
The entry-level Chev is the Spark which was previously sold here as the Daewoo Matiz.
Next in the line-up is the all-new Aveo which is actually a Daewoo Kalos and it will compete against cars like the VW Polo, Opel Corsa, Hyundai Getz and Honda Jazz.
The Daewoo Tacuma MPV is back as the Chevrolet Vivant.
The good news is that there are also V6 and V8 models in the form of the face-lifted Chevrolet Lumina. The Chev Lumina was previously sold in South Africa through Saab and other dealerships.
The new look Lumina is available as a sedan and as a pickup.
According to Arthur Boyle, Chevrolet's marketing manager, there will be 22 dealerships countrywide.
"We understand the importance of after sales support to our customers.
"This is one of the major reasons for controlling the number of dealers in our franchise," said Boyle.
"Firstly, it is important that the dealers have sufficient sales and service throughput in order to be financially viable, and secondly, by carefully controlling the distribution team, we can maintain the standards at the levels we believe our customers deserve."
"We also have the added benefit of the Delta Motor Corporation parts department infrastructure to ensure industry leading levels of parts supply, as independent research by ProActive Marketing showed that Delta leads the industry in aftermarket parts availability."
