VW goes topless with Golf R

WOLFSBURG, Germany – Volkswagen has always praised its “R” models for being their most powerful cars in the compact class. Now they’ve decided to drop their tops with the Golf R as the first car to debut as the R-series Cabriolet.

Customers will be getting their cars as early as the (northern) spring. And, just because it’s a topless model, don’t think the power has been compromised.

MOST POWERFUL DROPTOP

The two-litre turbo with direct petrol injection (TSI) coupled to a six-speed dual clutch gearbox(DSG) is good for 195kW and 350Nm from a low 2500rpm up to 5000rpm, making it the most powerful cabriolet in the stable.

Other figures to boast about are the 0-100km/h run of 6.4secs, an electronically limited top speed of 250km/h and an 8.2 litre/100km claimed fuel consumption. C02 emissions are 190g/km.

Standard features include bi-xenon headlights, LED daytime running lights, LED rear lights, 18” alloys, leather sport seats (front) , automatic climate control, sport chassis and unique bumpers.

Keeping with the Golf Cabriolet style, the R model also has a soft roof hauled up and down by an electro-hydraulic mechanism in only nine seconds.
