Renault boosts Megane 'collection'

Renault’s flagship Megane has enjoyed success globally with 235 000 units sold worldwide in 2011 and 730 000 sold since its launch in 2008. Now the French automaker has added some va-va-voom to its Megane Collection 2012.

The collection will feature three new engines and a number exterior changes and they'll arrive on our shores later in 2012.

DIESEL POWER

Renault has added two diesel engines (1.5 and 1.6) and a 1.2 turbo petrol engine - the 1.2 TCe 115 to replace the 1.6 16V. it can make 84kW/190Nm. According to Renault, some models of the Mégane Collection 2012 powered by the petrol unit can manage  5.3 litres/100km.

The 1.6 dCi 130 produces 95kw/320Nm with a claimed fuel consumption of four litres/100km. The diesel 1.5 dCi 110  is capable of 3.8/100km.

The Mégane Collection 2012 has a number of changes, most notably at the front. Diode lights and a new bumper have been added and the selection of wheels revised. New cabin trim has includes a two-tone leather pack; the GT and GT-line get red upholstery stitching and a sports steering wheel. There are also new body colours

Options include the Vision System from the Scénic and Grand Scénics. The system has a camera fixed to the windscreen behind the rearview mirror which improves night vision and features a lane-departure warning.

STYLING CHANGES: The front of the new Megane Collection units have diode headlights and gloss black/chromed styling detail.

Once engaged, the system will dip the headlights when an approaching vehicle is detected and switch back to main beams when it has passed.

Other features added to the range include hill-start assistance, Bluetooth telephony and satnav.

RS DESIGN PACK

Renault has also improved the sport version of its Mégane RS Collection 2012 with extra power and torque. The RS promises 195kW/360Nm and, like the standard model, receives a new wheel design and front-end changes. More features have been added to its RS Red Design Pack, among them red pin-striping for the front blade, sills and diffuser.

New interior trim has red stitching for the steering wheel, gear shifter fascia. Two-tone light grey and charcoal leather is an option, as are fabric or leather Recaro seats and a predominantly yellow ambience.
