Ford’s new Kuga will be launched locally in April with a new design and increased performance. We have prices and specs!

Ford's stylish Kuga SUV took about five years to arrive locally and was launched in South Africa early in 2012. Only one year on and the US automaker will launch the updated version in April 2013 sporting a new design and increased fuel economy.

According to Ford, its more fuel efficient has a sharper design and nifty features such as it s "open sesame" handsfree auto boot, all-wheel drive, lane keeping aid and blind spot indication.

The range includes a new turbocharged 1.6 EcoBoost petrol engine and a 2.0 turbo diesel.

The 1.6 petrol is available in two variants - 110kW manual and 134kW auto.

The 110kW front-wheel drive petrol is mated to a six-speed manual. Ford claims a combined fuel consumption figure of 6.6 litres/100km with an emissions rating of 154 g/km.

The 134kW model sports all-wheel drive and the engine is mated to a six-speed auto with selectshift. It uses 7.7 litres/100km and emits 179 g/km of CO2. Both variants produce 240Nm between 1600 and 4000 rpm.

Further additions to help reduce the Kuga’s carbon footprint include Eco mode, gear shift indicator and an active grille shutter to reduce drag and improve fuel consumption.

Optional goodies include active park assist, blind spot information system, active city stop, lane keeping aid, and lane departure warning.

The model line-up sees seven airbags across the range, ISOFIX child seat attachments, ABS with electronic brakeforce distribution (EBD), emergency brake assist (EBA) and electronic stability control (ESP).

There are six models to choose from with three different spec levels.
