CVT for Honda's hybrid CR-Z

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa - Honda’s sports hybrid is now available with a CVT automatic gearbox and it’s available in South Africa.

A refreshed model was launched in April 2013 with a 1.5i Vtec  IMA manual gearbox – still the only global hybrid car to feature a manual transmission.

Honda says the CR-Z has a conical pulley system with drive provided by an adjustable belt, the electronically-controlled continuously variable transmission allows for smooth driving dynamics.

HYBRID FUN

With more effective ratios than a conventional gearbox, Honda SA its CVT finds the ideal transmission ratio to match engine speed, increasing fuel efficiency and boosting engine performance.

Powering the model is a 88kW/145Nm petrol mated to a 13kW/78Nm electric motor for a combined output of 101kW/190Nm. The CVT version has a sport plus mode, via the 'Sport+' button, which allows for increased power.

Fuel economy is rated at 4.9-litres /100km on the combined average, it has a 0-100km/h sprint figure of 9.9 seconds with a top speed of 198km/h.

Standard goodies include a glass roof, LEDs, 17” alloys, dual-zone auto climate control and Bluetooth. Safety features include anti-lock brake system, electronic brake-force distribution, vehicle stability assistance, ISOFIX child seat anchors and six airbags.
